About Therapy

Creating Sense from Confusion and Chaos

There are special moments you seek in therapy: learning, experiencing, and facing the things that you fear or that hold you back.

The strength of therapy is that it helps people create sense out of confusion and chaos.

This is our primary goal together: to help you see things in a way that you haven’t before.

That “Ah-Ha” Experience

If you have been in therapy before, you may know what it is like to have a realization:

“I never thought about it that way.”

“That makes sense.”

“It’s opened my eyes to a lot of things.”

“I’m starting to feel better.”

“It’s been a huge relief.”

This is why I became a psychologist—for these moments during the process, these “ah-ha” experiences when you learn something about yourself that will help you grow or connect or feel more in control.

If you haven’t experienced it before, then you should know that this is what the process is all about.

Many of my clients have found me after experiencing a crossroads in their relationship or career—or with the challenges of divorce, separation, parenting, or severe anxiety…

… or that first panic attack… or the trauma of infidelity.

There may be just an unsettled feeling or one of being lost or in a fog—a desire to figure out why happiness feels so elusive or why it feels as though simply tolerating life has become the norm.

Each person that walks through my door is certain about one thing, though: Life needs to change.

My Specialties

Relationships and communication. Attacking and defending when you should be teaching and learning? Learning how to argue properly is the cornerstone of a good relationship.

Infidelity. Healing from betrayal is absolutely possible.

And, with work, a stronger and healthier relationship can also be developed.

Stress prevention. Not stress alleviation. If all you know how to do is get rid of stress, then you’ve got it wrong.

It’s all about preventing stress.

Panic, fear, and anxiety. Let me radically change the way you think about anxiety and panic in our very first session together.

The first thing to know is what you want is almost always the opposite of what you need.

Teens. Teens find me funny, not so formal, and easy to talk to. Parents are relieved when their teen is finally opening up.

Anxiety is a big issue with teens these days. Let’s tackle it sooner rather later.

About Me

What draws me to psychology…

Einstein said, “I’d rather be an optimist and a fool than a pessimist and right.” I don’t think I would practice psychology if I didn’t adhere to this statement.

I have seen people change dramatically. Helping to create change within a person and watching the development of a mindset that inspires long-lasting happiness is why I practice psychology.

I think you’ll find talking to me easier than you might have imagined…

I like to dig right in during that first session.

No long questionnaires and the forms are easy to fill out.

I’ve been told I have a way of clarifying things. Making sense out of the complexity of your story.

When I’m not seeing patients…

When I’m not seeing patients I’m engaged in all of those happiness-producing activities that I discuss in session, squeezing as much out of life as possible.

With a wife and three kids, too many hobbies, and a perspective of “active relaxation,” there is never a dull moment.
